Machut Shishak

Machutmi (“Machut”) Shishak is an advisor for Governmental Affairs at Convalt Energy. Machut is a former U.S. diplomat with over 20 years of experience advancing infrastructure, energy, and investment initiatives across emerging and frontier markets. He has advised senior leadership on political and geopolitical issues, working at the intersection of government, private sector, and development finance to support market entry, regulatory strategy, and cross-border partnerships in complex operating environments.

Over his Foreign Service career, Machut was posted to Myanmar, Morocco, Nepal, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Afghanistan. In Myanmar, Morocco, Nepal, and Laos, he led commercial diplomacy and economic initiatives supporting investment and infrastructure development, including spearheading the establishment of American Chambers of Commerce in both Myanmar and Nepal to strengthen private sector engagement. Earlier in his career, his work in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Afghanistan focused on political, human rights, and environmental and public health issues—providing him with a broad foundation in engaging governments across both commercial and non-commercial domains. His work has supported more than $2 billion in U.S. investment, expanded development finance portfolios, and helped originate and advance large-scale infrastructure and energy projects.

Machut is a recipient of the U.S. Department of State’s Herbert Salzman Award for Excellence in International Economic Performance and the Benjamin Joy Award for Commercial Diplomacy, a joint Department of State and Department of Commerce award recognizing leadership in advancing U.S. business interests abroad.
